Who of those is Rooney?
Until a short time ago, the five headed band “Rooney” was not that well-known. But having an appearance in the series “The O.C.” (with the song “Popstars”) they firstly called attention to themselves. Meantime, they are a bit more in the spotlight because of their album “Calling the World”. The album itself did not break through, but more and more often, songs like “When did your heart go missing?” or “Are you afraid?” are played on the radio.
But the whole album is outstanding. The band is often compared to Blur, the Beatles or the Beach Boys; it does not only feature melodies remembering you at (musical) times long ago, but stands out due to its diversity. Nearly all songs deal with love or relationships, but the style of the Californian band is very varied: some songs are fast and rousing, others are more calm and soulful, sometimes Robert Schwartzman sings in deeper pitches with soft changeovers, sometimes in higher ones.
The Intro-song “Calling the World” is already ingenious – the song is induced by different phones ringing, before the instrumental and finally the chant parts start.
The album has also a nice cover, a solid jewel case and a voluminous booklet and is worth one’s salt.
10/10
