Tradition for the Cup
The FC Portsmouth has won the British FA-Cup for the first time since 1939. Against Cardiff, they took hold with a 1:0.
Kanu saves the victory
Welsh second league club Cardiff was the clear underdog in this match. Playing well most of the time, they had no chance to avert the defeat, being thus inconsequent and being impeded by the English who always tackled the ball out of the penalty box. In the 37th minute, Portsmouth’ Nigerian forward Nwankwo Kanu scored the 1:0, what was also the final score.
At long last again shocks for the favourites
Thus, Portsmouth landed the prestigious cup for the first time since 69 years; Cardiff’s last win is even 81 years ago. Finally, the FA-Cup exhibited what is special about competitions like this one (cups): “Substandard” teams that defeat favourites.
