On the earth, the climate crisis starts: floodings, snowstorms, hailstons as big as bowling balls. That leads to the death of nearly everyone in the northern parts of America, Europe and Asia; the others escape in a southward direction. In New York, the young Sam and his friends try to survive. Sam’s father, the climate scientist Jack Hall, begins searching them.
That’s it with the plot. There is no more action, desisting from the scenes inserted for dramatization. But that doesn’t mean the film is not worth seeing. Above all, the first hour is enthralling, you see brilliant special effects and how the catastrophe grows more acute, and you feel with the friends fighting against the forces of nature.
But then the action-material dies down and you only see some clumsy tries to build up suspense; besides, the friends and also Jack try to survive - that is somehow converted nicely, but doesn’t create suspense. But the actors play authentically and the criticism on the non-climate protection is quite successful.
