Drug-excesses, a husband in prison, much trouble with paparazzi and a wonderful breathy voice; surely this article is about Amy Winehouse.
Her album “Back to Black”, which is her second and takes place in the Jazz/Soul-field, is in today’s focus. Overall 10 tracks were pressed on the disc. The design of the CD and the cover is made in simply black and dark blue-tones. Maybe this looks kind of boring on the first view, but in the rack it is looking spruce.
The singe tracks present alternation, so the album never seems dreary and no track is in a low-quality-manner. The awesome voice conciliates many emotions and knows how to attract attention by variation. Most of the songs are about real-life problems of Amy, for example love or drugs. So nearly each song is connected with another emotion and is able to fascinate me. The introduction with “Rehab” is succeeded well, which gets even better with “Back to Black” and “Tears Dry On Their Own” and ends with “He Can Only Hold Her” in a superb spectacle. The songs in between cannot reach the high level of these three songs but are worth listening as well.
In my opinion everybody who likes Jazz or Soul should listen to this album, it will not hurt. The décor is average, just as the cover. This album is available for 13€ which is in the middle field of the price ranking. But her album is on a higher level than the one of the prize.
8/10
